Refugee Camp
Kutupalong, located in the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar, is currently the largest refugee camp in the world. The so-called mega camp is home to around 800,000 predominantly Rohingya refugees that have fled violent persecution in neighboring Myanmar. Kutupalong isn’t only the largest camp in the world, it is also the most densely populated and has exceeded its capacity. Most of the refugees have no adequate access to clean water, sanitary facilities, or healthcare. The impending monsoon season also poses a huge threat to thousands of Rohingya families living in makeshift shelters in the camp.
INLUXSOLAR’s solar street lights are at the forefront of enhancing the Cox’s Bazar refugee camps’ ecological sustainability and living conditions. Our contribution to the United Nations’ SAFE+2 program has been pivotal, providing 4,000 sets of solar street lights that light up the paths of nearly one million Rohingya refugees.
These eco-friendly lights have been instrumental in reducing the environmental strain caused by the need for firewood, which had led to deforestation and soil erosion in the region. By harnessing solar energy, our lights decrease the refugees’ reliance on traditional fuel sources, thus protecting the local ecosystem and improving overall health and safety.
The SAFE+2 initiative, launched by the UN in 2019, has been effectively supported by INLUXSOLAR’s solar street lights, which have become a cornerstone of the program’s environmental restoration efforts. Our lighting solution plays a key role in the revegetation of the camps and the protection of approximately 12,000 hectares of forest land.
Moreover, the integration of our solar street lights with the SAFE+2 program’s environmental activities has bolstered the self-reliance of the refugee camps. From home gardening to waste recycling, our lights power a range of initiatives that contribute to the local economy and community resilience.
As the Rohingya refugees await their return to Myanmar, INLUXSOLAR’s solar street lights stand as a beacon of hope, ensuring their safety and well-being while they rely on humanitarian aid. Our dedication to delivering sustainable lighting solutions underscores our commitment to making a positive impact on global communities facing adversity.
